The Government of Argentina, through its Sub-Secretariat of Environment, will host the virtual training series “Circular Solutions for Agro-Industrial Organic Waste”, supported by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), and implemented by the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) and ImplementaSur, under the Recycle Organics Program.

The six-session program, taking place every Thursday from October 30 to December 4, 2025, aims to strengthen capacities among swine producers, slaughterhouses, and local and provincial governments to turn organic waste into productive, environmental, and economic opportunities, contributing to methane mitigation and circular economy goals in Argentina.

Note: The sessions are conducted in Spanish.

Session #1: Composting of Carcasses and Digestate. This session introduced the institutional framework and main action areas related to managing organic waste in the agro‑industrial sector. It also explored the technical aspects of composting animal carcasses and digestate, emphasizing their importance in adding value to organic waste and promoting more sustainable production practices.

Session #2: Biodigestion. This session presented the main biodigestion technologies and the biogas potential available in the country. It outlines the energy policy of the Province of Santa Fe and describes the current state of anaerobic biodigestion, focusing on the energy transition, the use of agro‑industrial waste, financing opportunities for producers, and support for distributed energy generation. The session also highlights progress made by INTA Castelar regarding the agricultural use of anaerobic digestate and its role in restoring soil fertility.

Session #3: Biochar: This webinar features experts discussing the potential of biochar as carbon infrastructure, including industrial experiences in Latin America, pyrolysis processes, and emerging opportunities in the carbon credit market. It also explores biochar’s role as a circular solution for managing and adding value to organic waste, highlighting its benefits for soil restoration, emission reduction, and integration into circular economy strategies. Finally, the Biochar Argentina Initiative is presented, outlining its action plan through 2028.

Session #4: Regulation for Certification of Composting and Digestate.

Session #5: Use of by-products. This webinar brings together experts to discuss strategies for managing and adding value to organic waste in the pig and meat‑processing sectors. It explores technologies and practices that transform these materials into useful resources. The session also shares experiences on the use of digestate, the recycling of animal slaughter waste, and emerging opportunities to incorporate by‑products into food value chains.

Session #6: Business model. This session examines business models for adding value to waste generated on pig farms and cattle slaughterhouses. It reviews technological options such as biogas, including their technical and economic components, as well as key financial indicators used to assess project feasibility. The session also introduces how carbon markets work and their potential to improve profitability while helping to reduce methane emissions in the waste sector.
