Co-Chaired by Brazil and the United Kingdom, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is an action-oriented partnership of over 200 governments, international organizations, and NGOs where the world meets to combat super pollutants, reduce air pollution, and tackle dangerous near-term warming. The theme of this year’s Conference is “Accelerating Action on Super Pollutants: The Road to COP30”. Action is urgent because action on super pollutants is the emergency brake for climate, due to a combination of time and temperature. Action is doable because action on super pollutants comes with a double dividend to effectively address air pollution and reduce the risk of hitting climate tipping points. The event will bring together country representatives, global experts, and policy leaders from across the partnership. As countries prepare their updated national climate plans, or Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) on the road to COP30, this year’s Conference will focus on integrating super pollutants and ways to tackle air pollution in national and global climate strategies. Sessions at the Conference will cover NDCs 3.0, gender equity as a driver of action, a science-policy dialogue highlighting a “one atmosphere” approach, scaling up finance on super pollutants, a marketplace of ideas to drive innovation from the partnership, and sectoral breakout conversations with the CCAC’s six sectoral hubs (agriculture, heavy duty vehicles and engines, waste, household energy, fossil fuels, and cooling). It works to reduce powerful but short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) – methane, black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and tropospheric ozone – that drive both climate change and air pollution. Co-Chaired by the United Kingdom and Brazil, it connects ambitious agenda setting with targeted mitigation action within countries and sectors. Robust science and analysis underpin its efforts, and bolstered by its Trust Fund, it has given rise to high level political commitment, in-country support, and a range of tools that help make the case for action and support implementation.
