Image In New Year’s Message, Guterres urges countries to drastically slash emissions and ‘exit this road to ruin’‘No time to lose’The Secretary-General noted that the top 10 hottest years on record have occurred in the past decade.“This is climate breakdown — in real time. We must exit this road to ruin — and we have no time to lose,” he said.“In 2025, countries must put the world on a safer path by dramatically slashing emissions, and supporting the transition to a renewable future. It is essential — and it is possible.” Remote video URL Key Highlights of 2024 Image Guidance on Including non-CO2 Pollutants in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)The CCAC released updated guidance offering practical and strategic recommendations to help experts and teams include non-CO2 Pollutants in NDCs. The guidance focuses on setting goals and identifying measures tailored to each national context. The Guidance is available in Arabic, English, French and Spanish. Image Global Nitrous Oxide Assessment The Global Nitrous Oxide Assessment shined a light on N₂O as an often-forgotten greenhouse gas and super pollutant. Without urgent action on rising N₂O emissions, there is no viable pathway to limiting global warming to 1.5°C and identifies practical, cross-sectoral abatement strategies that could cut N₂O emissions by more than 40% from current levels. Image Scaling Up Underfinanced SLCP Mitigation Solutions: Driving Innovation and Technology in the Waste SectorThe CCAC's Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (CCAC-TEAP) identified two underfinanced yet highly effective solutions to reduce the emissions impact of organic waste: Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology and biocovers. Image Scaling Up Underfinanced SLCP Mitigation Solutions: Driving Innovation and Technology in the Agriculture SectorThe CCAC-TEAP brief in the Agriculture sector focuses on innovative technologies that increase farmer capacity while lowering the capital investments required to adopt methane-mitigating practices. This brief highlights two solutions for increasing the adoption of those practices: digital agriculture services, and results-based payments. Image CCAC TEAP Report: Role of Digital (Extension) Services for Livestock on Tackling Methane EmissionsThe CCAC-TEAP report on the role of digital extension services for livestock on tackling methane emission identifies the opportunities and challenges in using DSL, and offers pathways to implementing DSL-led systems through case studies. It connects to climate policy to demonstrate how DSL can enhance the value of existing extension services, facilitate incorporation of individual mitigation options into national climate targets, and further advance investment opportunities. ROW DeclarationAt COP29, the Presidency launched the Reducing Methane from Organic Waste Declaration (ROW), with state signatories over 50% of global methane emissions. The declaration was developed with CCAC, as a key commitment to implementing the GMP. CCAC MinisterialThis year’s CCAC Ministerial brought more than 40 high-level representatives at New York Climate Week to reaffirm the urgent need to work together to cut super pollutants, endorsing the CCAC Super Pollutant Ministerial 2024 – Communique. GMP MinisterialThe Global Methane Pledge (GMP) unites 159 countries and the European Commission in pursuit of a goal to cut methane emissions 30 percent below 2020 levels by 2030. At COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, participants met to take stock of progress and make new commitments. Non-CO2 SummitThe United States, People’s Republic of China, and the COP29 Presidency convened a Summit to accelerate actions to cut emissions of methane and other non-CO2 greenhouse gases at COP29, with countries announcing new funding and policy commitments to tackle super pollutants. CCAC Annual MeetingThe Climate and Clean Air Conference gathered high level leadership to raise the global profile of SLCP action - bringing together 86 sate partners and 83 non-state partners in Kenya with a focus on accelerating super pollutant solutions. GMP Champions Call for ActionGMP Champions made two high profile calls for continued and accelerated efforts to reduce methane emissions as rapidly as possible in this critical decade and beyond, including though inclusion in next nationally determined contributions (NDCs). Launch of AQMxAhead of this year’s International Day of Clean Air and blue skies, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) has developed and launched an Air Quality Management Exchange Platform (AQMx) designed to help air quality professionals everywhere tackle air pollution. The platform is a one-stop-shop that provides the latest air quality management guidance and tools proposed to meet WHO Air Quality Guidelines interim targets.Check out our collective achievements in the 2024 Annual Report End of Year Updates From Our Partners & Network Jordan holds workshop on SLCP planningThe Jordan Climate Action Network (CAN) organised a workshop in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and funded by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).
