We look forward to connecting with many of you at London Climate Action Week as we continue building momentum on the Country Action Accelerator

If you're attending, we hope to see you there. If not, we'll keep you updated on key announcements, discussions, and outcomes throughout the week.

Ahead of LCAW, we're also convening our Second Non-State Partners Strategy Exchange on 10 June. The exchange call is an opportunity to connect with peers and share insights across the ecosystem.

This World Environment Day (5 June) focuses on climate change and the signals we choose to send back to the planet. Join UNEP’s #NowForClimate campaign and the global limbo dance challenge to send a clear message: protect the planet for this generation and the next. Access multilingual campaign materials here.

Climate Bonds Updates Bioenergy Criteria

The Climate Bonds Initiative released updated Bioenergy Criteria that include stronger sustainability safeguards and expanded guidance on methane management within biogas and biomethane value chains. Read more

The Environmental Investigation Agency released a new assessment exploring options for sustainably financing action on ozone-depleting substances and hydrofluorocarbons  banks. Read more

Science Corner

A new study by Yi-Ming Wei, Drew Shindell, and colleagues finds that climate policies can deliver greater food security benefits than previously recognized. The analysis shows that carbon neutrality pledges from 153 countries could increase yields of maize, rice, soybean, and wheat across more than 70% of global cropland, while studies that ignore ozone pollution may underestimate these benefits by up to 38.7%. The findings highlight an important food security co-benefit of climate action.

Across the Community

One of the strongest signals this month came from the France G7-labelled Multi-Stakeholder Event on Methane Action. The discussion focused not on why methane action is needed, but on how to move faster.

Key developments included:

Parliamentarians from across Africa gathered in Nairobi, Kenya on 15–16 May 2026 for a regional seminar focused on accelerating climate action through methane reduction, highlighting the growing role of national legislatures in turning climate commitments into practical implementation.  Read more

Rwanda advanced action on both cooling and methane this month. Technicians strengthened practical skills in sustainable refrigeration and cooling part of the project on Strengthening Capacity for the Sustainable Cooling and Refrigeration Sector in Rwanda, while national experts received hands-on training to improve livestock greenhouse gas inventories ahead of the country's Biennial Transparency Report where the report on Livestock Climate Action in Rwanda: Enhancing nationally determined contributions for a sustainable future, developed by FAO and the Government of Rwanda was launched.

The African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES), in partnership with Nigerian government agencies and supported by the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), has launched a project to strengthen electric cooking (e-cooking) in Nigeria’s clean cooking transition, including support for policy implementation and financing. Read more about the project

Somalia launched a new project to strengthen national air quality governance systems through a partnership involving Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). Read project details

The County Government of Nakuru, Solidaridad East and Central Africa, and partners validated a baseline study on methane emissions from smallholder dairy systems in Nakuru and Nyandarua counties, helping inform Kenya’s efforts to reduce livestock methane emissions and promote low-emission dairy production. Read more

In Uganda and Kenya, the Waste to Wealth (WAWE) initiative, supported by the Climate & Clean Air Coalition, is helping transform waste into opportunity by connecting youth, women, innovators, and entrepreneurs to climate solutions. By bringing together communities, universities, and businesses, WAWE is turning waste challenges into jobs, investment, and cleaner, healthier cities. Read about the project

The Bandung City Government convened agencies and partners, including the Climate Policy Initiative and Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), to advance organic waste management as part of efforts to reduce methane emissions and address growing landfill pressures. The meeting aligned investment planning, technical assistance, and waste management strategies under the Lowering Organic Waste Methane (LOW-M) initiative. Read more

Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives highlighted progress from its global zero-waste initiatives, showcasing how community-led composting, organic waste recovery, and waste picker programs in countries including Indonesia, Chile, and South Africa are helping reduce methane emissions while supporting livelihoods, food security, and more sustainable waste management systems. Read project update

GAIA also launched a briefing for policymakers on how to integrate waste pickers into formal waste management systems can improve environmental outcomes, strengthen local economies, and advance environmental justice. Read here

The Republic of Korea announced plans for a national refrigerant full-cycle management system that will collect, regenerate, and reuse refrigerants, reducing emissions while supporting a circular economy approach. Read more

The Green Freight Corridors project, an action under the Climate and Clean Air Coalition's (CCAC) Heavy-duty Vehicles and Engines Hub, supports countries in South America and East Africa in measuring, managing, and reducing freight vehicle emissions through standardized data, coordinated policies, and multi-stakeholder action.  The project connects the Bi-Oceanic Corridor in South America with the Northern Corridor of East and Central Africa, fostering South-South cooperation between regions facing similar challenges: ageing vehicle fleets, limited emissions data, and fragmented regulatory frameworks. By aligning governments, industry, and experts, the project enables practical, scalable pathways toward low-emission freight systems. Read more

At an event hosted by the United Nations University in Tokyo, Former Argentine Environment Minister Romina Picolotti joined UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala to discuss practical pathways for accelerating action on super pollutants. Read more

At the 2026 Methane Summit in Beijing, our Partners together with the CCAC Head of Secretariat, joined global leaders to discuss how cooperation and implementation can accelerate methane action for near-term warming reduction, while also delivering clean air, health, energy and food security benefits.
