This report presents the updated results of mortality and morbidity attributed to ambient air pollution (also known as ‘burden of disease due to air pollution’). It includes information on the sources of data on air pollution available to the WHO, on the methodology used to estimate human exposure to air pollution and related burden of disease, as well as the actual estimates of human exposure to particulate matter of a diameter less than 2.5 micrometres (PM2.5) for countries and for the globe; and the related national burden of disease attributable to long-term exposure to ambient (outdoor) air pollution for the year 2012.
