Panama SLCP Roadmap

Mitigating Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs), which include methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons, has great potential to limit air pollution and achieve emission reduction milestones by 2030.

In this context, although Panama is one of the few countries that has achieved and even exceeded carbon neutrality due to its forest management offsetting CO2eq emissions, The country continues to produce SLCPs from sources such as solid waste and agricultural activities, the energy sector and industrial processes and product use.

This report corresponds to the fifth product of the project aimed at building a methane focused SLCP mitigation roadmap, compatible with development.

This report highlights the results of the implementation paths of the sectoral mitigation strategies, an initiative aimed at identifying and executing effective strategies to reduce SLCP emissions. Additionally, it analyzes how these mitigation actions can contribute to human development and Panama’s economic dynamism.
