This side event is co-organised between Fiji, Vanuatu, the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GGMI), and the Climate and Clean Air Collation to promote Strengthening GHG Data Management and Mitigation in the Pacific: Lessons Learned and Future Pathways under the ETF, Paris Agreement, and Global Methane Pledge.

Including non-COâ‚‚ pollutants in the NDCs 3.0 is critical to preserving the 1.5°C temperature limit and fully achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Deep cuts of non-COâ‚‚ super pollutants, including methane, black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons, and Nâ‚‚O – many of which are SLCPs – will help prevent warming in the next few decades, providing protection to people and ecosystems as decarbonisation efforts advance and take effect.

The global reduction of SLCPs with existing and cost-effective measures could reduce the rate of sea level rise by 20% by 2050. Beyond stronger mitigation results, addressing non- COâ‚‚ pollutants offers multiple benefits that bolster air quality and health, food and energy security, and sustainable economic development.

This side event will also serve as a platform to link domestic priorities to Pacific political commitments of the Global Methane Pledge and the pathways to facilitate and enhance the relevant data foundation.
