This activity provides insights on sector-by-sector use patterns and opportunities to avoid HFC growth in countries. In order to increase understanding of the use and potential growth of HFCs, the initiative has produced 14 HFC consumption surveys in developing countries. These surveys are critical to help countries identify national HFC consumption and sectors most exposed in order to healp prioitize where they can best start implementing the Kigali Amendment. ObjectivesThis activity aims to better understand where HFCs are being used and project future growth that may occur absent changes from the current business as usual scenario through analysis of survey information. This will provide insight on sector-by-sector use patterns among different countries where surveys have been conducted, and opportunities to avoid high-GWP HFC growth which can help inform policies and practices. What we're doingAs part of the Coalition’s initiative on the promotion of HFC alternative technologies and standards, partners approved funding in August 2012 to develop an initial set of HFC inventories in six medium and large volume consuming developing countries. In March 2013, partners approved additional resources to augment the work from the first set of inventories, and take on additional inventory work in new countries. Inventories of HFC consumption in Bangladesh, Chile, Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria and Vietnam have been completed. Near completion on the second set of inventories in Bahamas, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, and Mongolia, South Africa. A preliminary summary report was released in October 2016 and a final summary report will be produced later this year. Emissions assessments were also done based on the first six HFC Inventory Reports prepared for Bangladesh, Chile, Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia and Nigeria. The reports, plus any relevant supporting information in the public domain, were used to derive emissions estimates using the assembled time series of consumption data. A summary of the combined experience arising from the development and reporting of emissions forecasts for the six countries using their HFC inventory reports implemented by UNDP from 2013 to 2015 was also developed.
