COUNTRY ACTION ACCELERATOR PACKAGE

USD4M

The Accelerator package supports Cambodia in advancing coordinated action on super pollutants.

ACCELERATOR PROGRAMME FOCUS

SCALE-UP

The programme strengthens national coordination and helps translate priority actions into finance-ready, scalable interventions.

at a glance

Cambodia has been a CCAC partner since 2014 and is part of the first cohort of the Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator. Building on its national climate and clean air commitments, the Accelerator supports Cambodia in moving from policy ambition to implementation across priority sectors.

Through the Accelerator, Cambodia strengthens institutional capacity, improves MRV systems, and advances action on waste methane, clean cooking, climate-smart rice cultivation and rice residue management. This support contributes to Cambodia’s climate, clean air, public health and sustainable development objectives.

Trajectory
What the accelerator will achieve

The Accelerator supports Cambodia in advancing four mutually reinforcing outcomes:

1. Finance for methane mitigation

Mobilize and scale finance for methane mitigation, with a focus on unlocking investment and accelerating emissions reductions in the waste sector.

2. Electric cooking frameworks

Strengthen policy, regulatory and market frameworks for electric cooking, enabling a faster transition to clean, affordable and low-emission cooking solutions.

3. Advancing climate-smart rice cultivation and residue management

Reducing emissions while supporting agricultural productivity and sustainability

4. Strengthening national capacity to monitor and reduce SLCPs

Improving MRV systems and providing the evidence base for effective policymaking, implementation and reporting.

TEAM ON THE GROUND

The Super Pollutant Team will be embedded within the General Directorate of Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Environment. This placement supports coordination across relevant line ministries and sub-national authorities through an inter-ministerial mechanism on super pollutants.

Cambodia’s Super Pollutant Unit is designed to support whole-of-government coordination, translate mitigation potential into policy reform, mobilize domestic and international finance, build national MRV systems, and anchor long-term institutional capacity beyond CCAC funding.
