Highlights National Academies of Sciences and Medicine issue urgent call to action on harmful air pollution New international initiative stresses need for global action on air pollution and singles out short-lived climate pollutants as health impacts remain high. Maldives’ first National Action Plan on Air Pollutants highlights local air pollution benefits of climate action The plan includes 28 mitigation measures to reduce emissions of air pollutants, short-lived climate pollutants, and carbon dioxide. Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council of Ministers approves National SLCP Action Plan to improve air quality and fight climate change The Federal Ministry of Environment's ambitious plan outlines 22 measures to improve air pollution and reduce the country’s contribution to climate change. Central American countries advance the integration of climate and air quality at the regional level Countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) have set out a road map to build an integrated plan for climate change and air quality in an integrated manner. India joins the Climate and Clean Air Coalition India becomes the 65th country to join the partnership, committing to international effort for clean air and a safe climate . World Environment Day message from UN Secretary General António Guterres The UN Secretary General called on all countries to act decisively to improve air quality and fight climate change: tax pollution; end fossil fuel subsidies; and stop building new coal plants.
