And we must take fast and effective action to protect it, both to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. To engage and support more countries in increasing their climate ambition, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition Secretariat and partners continue to meet with ministers and leaders under our Action Programme to Address the 1.5°C Challenge. At the ‘Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ in Denmark, our partners Nigeria and Stockholm Environment Institute presented how they have applied the tools and scenarios from the Coalition’s Multiple Benefits Pathway Framework to support national action planning. UN Environment launched the ‘Cool Coalition’ campaign there to rally for increased energy efficiency in cooling. France has led consultations with all partners to finalize our new CCAC Efficient Cooling initiative, which was approved in principle during the Nairobi Working Group in March. Our partners are now gearing up for the UN Climate Action Summit. We are working with countries to increase ambition in their Nationally Determined Contributions with additional actions to reduce short-lived climate pollutants such as efficient cooling, oil and gas methane reductions, and climate-smart agriculture. This work calls for strong, focused and cross-sector cooperation. If you would like to take part in any of these initiatives, please contact the Secretariat at secretariat [at] ccacoalitin.org (secretariat[at]ccacoalition[dot]org). Highlights Air pollution and climate change: two sides of the same coin Although they may seem to be two very different issues, climate change and air pollution are closely linked, so by reducing air pollution we also protect the climate. The Transition to Zero-Emission Bus Fleets in Megacities London and Santiago show how following a dual soot-free and zero-emission technology pathway delivers lower air pollution and energy consumption in the transportation fleet. São Paulo tackles organic waste Since 2016, the Coalition has supported megacity São Paulo to develop a network of composting facilities. Find out about the city’s progress and ambitious future plans. How to save the Arctic’s moderating role on global warming Even if climate emissions were halted today, Arctic warming would continue for at least two decades. Fast mitigation can still slow future warming, starting with immediate cuts to short-lived climate pollutants. Black Carbon and Maritime Shipping: The Long Road to Regulating a Short-Lived Climate Pollutant We’ve defined black carbon, we’ve agreed on appropriate ways to measure it, and we’ve identified several good ways to control it. The last step is to act. World Green Building Council launches Air Quality in Built Environment campaign The Coalition is partnering with the World GBC on this campaign to increase awareness, develop understanding and kickstart actions from a global audience across the building and construction sector.
