The theme in 2020 is ‘Time for Nature’ - a call for urgent action to restore the natural systems on which we depend for our health and wellbeing. The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature. As governments apply economic stimulus efforts in response to the global pandemic, we must ensure that the many services nature provides us are not further damaged in the process. The Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s approach to addressing climate change, public health and development as interconnected problems is the subject of recent research. The research finds that the CCAC provides an important contribution to global climate governance through our ability to build trust among partners, contribute to public good and deliver direct benefits within countries that go beyond near-term climate change mitigation. We can take collective pride in how we have been instrumental in moving the needle to reduce short-lived climate pollutants in the health, agriculture, energy and municipal solid waste sectors. There is a clear need to scale up our work, as part of both low emission development and a healthier planet. We are working on our 2030 Strategy to achieve this, together. Helena Molin Valdes, Head of the CCAC Secretariat News highlights CCAC scientists put out call for comments on climate and clean air responses to COVID-19 Members of the CCAC’s Scientific Advisory Panel and invited experts issued a call to the global scientific and policy community to provide guidance and evidence to build back better from the COVID-19 crisis. Cities champion cycling to head off traffic as COVID-19 restrictions ease As cities start to gradually lift lockdowns, some are looking to extend temporary measures that support cyclists and discourage crowding in public transport, while preventing anticipated surges in car use. CCAC project for climate-friendly cooling in cars wins prestigious industry award An international team has been awarded the 2020 Environmental Excellence in Transportation (E2T) Award in the “Mobile Energy and Emissions” category by SAE International. The CCAC's Waste Finance Programme Helps Cities Tackle Barriers to Transforming Their Urban Waste Waste management can be an expensive and complicated undertaking but connecting with other cities around the world helps communities learn from each other's mistakes and accomplishments. Gas flaring has dangerous side effects but these mitigation opportunities could be a win for everyone A CCAC technology demonstration project gives a powerful display of the social and economic potential of flaring reduction. (Rethinking) Supply Chains in the Time of Corona COVID-19 has disrupted global supply chains. Sophie Punte, Executive Director of the Smart Freight Centre on how industry leaders can be more resilient, more sustainable and more climate friendly.
